Introducing Caleb Reece!

Sunday, April 27th, 2008

The waiting is over and we are thrilled to tell you that Caleb Reece has arrived! He was born on Thursday, April 24, at 4:45pm. He weighed 7 lbs. 7 ounces, is 19.5 inches long, has quite a bit of reddish-blond hair, and came into the world screaming.

Caleb Reece fresh from the womb!

Because Kirsten was a week overdue, she was induced Thursday morning with a prostaglandin gel. And within about 5 hours she pushed him out! We were thankful that the delivery was able to be drug-free, and that Caleb arrived so quickly. After the birth, they wheeled Kirsten off to the garage (operating room) for some repairs, as a result of that fast delivery.

Caleb and his mommy

They kept us two nights at the hospital to allow Kirsten more time to recover. We were fortunate to get a private room so Steve could stay with mom & babe the whole time. Those two nights were relatively sleepless as Kirsten & Caleb (and Steve) were working on the whole feeding thing (along with the usual hospital interruptions), and we’re glad to have come home yesterday late afternoon. Kirsten’s milk has come in and nursing seems to be working well.

Caleb and his daddy

Caleb is healthy, all his systems are go, along with the normal bit of weight-loss and a touch of jaundice. He’s very strong, makes great faces, has a delightful squeak, quite an arresting cry, and is pretty much the cutest thing we’ve ever seen.

We’re looking forward to Caleb meeting you sometime–but maybe not for another week yet (for those of you in the Strathmore area) as mom & baby get into more of a routine and we all get some more sleep. :)

Thank you so much for your prayers and care for us,

Steve, Kirsten & Caleb
