Cabie’s first Christmas (month 9)

Friday, February 20th, 2009

I know what you’re thinking, two posts in one week? Yep. We’re catching up. Someday we’ll post some videos. Emphasis on SOMEday. So we celebrated Christmas with Caleb for the first time! We were with the Waldschmidts in Cleveland. But first, Kirsten led the Christmas Eve services at Hope. We hung fabric from the rafters and lit up the Jesus manger, alike so:

candlelighting

Early Christmas morning we hopped on a plane, another first for Caleb. (The captain had the seat belt sign on.)

where are we?

We got there in time for Christmas dinner:

uncle Brian's taking it

Auntie Elizabeth getting some good Cabie-time.

yay Aunt Elizard!

After dinner Caleb opened some presents, eventually. We spaced them out over a few days.

yummmmm

Here’s Uncle Andy getting the chow going:

tasty

Caleb enjoyed waking his Uncle Brian every morning.

wakey wakey

Here’s a delightful cuddly bear outfit from Aunt E and Uncle A:

grrrrr

Caleb’s still been napping in his swaddle-me wrap — this is after a nap when he didn’t break free (which is unusual):

caterpillar?

 Caleb got a cute fuzzy bunny from Grandpa Dave. He enjoyed his fuzzy Grandpa, too.

ooooh

hey gramps

tug of war?

Here’s Gramma Pam playing the running game:

running running running

Caleb got fed by everybody… what were mealtimes like before this entertainment?

 mmmm

 open wider, gramps

We flew home on Dec 30, just in time for a visit from Grandpa Andy and Grammy Jenell. We all went swimmin’!

yeeaaargh!

 yippers

Caleb likes his ring stacker – here he’s practicing his balancing again.

I'm an angel

Caleb cut his third tooth just before leaving Cleveland. He still enjoys his bouncy chair, it makes a great teether now.

gnaw, gnaw

see?

Showin’ off scrubs from Uncle (Dr.) Brian’s hospital at UCSF:

 More gnawing (he has 8 teeth as of Feb 9th), and “ooo” is a favourite expression…

refreshing and delicious

 oooh

First sled-ride, and his first car – both Christmas gifts from our church.

woooh

beep beep

Another laundry-lover moment:

cozy

And we’ll close with our family photo from Christmas. Thanks for loving Caleb and supporting us in this stretching journey as new parents!

Happy Christmas from the 3 of us!

Caleb’s months 7 and 8

Ok, time’s flying and we’re slow. Here’s a quick post with photos to sate your appetite for pics of the boy…

Caleb prefers to drink water from a glass, has since end of October. And hold the spoon.

skoom, skoom

 nummy spoon

He loves the laundry. Will fuss everytime he notices the basement door and begs to go down and see the whirling machines – even if they’re not running.

ah, that's the life

He’s reading already. (Actually, it’s the only time he sits still.)

oooh!

Last day he fit in his owl outfit.

hoo me?

We dedicated Caleb to God on November 16. We read Psalm 139, which Kirsten adapted:

O LORD, you have searched Caleb

       and you know him.

You know when he sits and when he rises;

       you perceive his thoughts from afar.

You discern his going out and his lying down;

       you are familiar with all his ways.

Before a word is on his tongue

       you know it completely, O LORD.

You hem Caleb in—behind and before;

       you have laid your hand upon him.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

       too lofty for me to attain.

Where can Caleb go from your Spirit?

       Where can he flee from your presence?

If he goes up to the heavens, you are there;

       if he makes his bed in the depths, you are there.

If he rises on the wings of the dawn,

       if he settles on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide Caleb,

       your right hand will hold him fast.

If Caleb were to say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

       and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

       the night will shine like the day,

       for darkness is as light to you.

For you created Caleb’s inmost being;

       you knit him together in my womb.

We praise you because Caleb is fearfully and wonderfully made;

       your works are wonderful,

       we know that full well.

His frame was not hidden from you

       when he was made in the secret place.

       When he was woven together in the depths of the earth,

your eyes saw his unformed body.

       All the days ordained for Caleb

       were written in your book before one of them came to be.

hey pastor Evan

grammy and me

Uncle Brian came to visit in early December, just in time for both mommy and daddy to get sick. Uncle Bri Bri to the rescue…

yay for uncles

yummy

chilly walk

Here’s daddy doing Caleb’s afternoon bottle while mommy’s at work (actually it’s burping time).

burp time

Caleb’s favourite toy this month – stackers! (His favourite part is the demolition part of the stack.)

oh boy!

 The little muscle man:

grrr.

hello?

argh!

Caleb spent some time as an elf. (His noggin’s too big for the hat.)

 ho ho ho

He was quite focused and intent on eating (them were the days). And he’s quite expressive with his feet in the high chair…

yumm!

kickin up the heels

More to come shortly, if we can manage it…
